The Alessia association was born on 23 March 2004 in Vernate with the aim of improving and expanding the pediatric sector of the Canton of Ticino and to create support for the needs of children who need special care in the field of pediatrics and help their families. Every year many children are transported beyond the Gotthard to find the treatments and infrastructures suited to their needs, which unfortunately Ticino still cannot offer. In fact, in the hospitals of our canton there is no intensive ward specifically designed for babies or young children. Or for high-risk pregnancies. The Alessia Association aims to be able to expand the pediatric sector in Ticino and thus be able to guarantee adequate care even for our young patients.
How the Alessia Association helps and supports:
– It undertakes to support families by raising funds for all those expenses that are not covered by insurance or health insurance such as (travel, meals away from home, overnight stays, interruption of work, etc.)
– Raises funds for the purchase of machinery, new infrastructure and cutting-edge material to support pediatrics
– a point of reference for families who have to deal with the discomfort of a hospitalization far from their environment, who have problems with linguistic understanding or who feel the need to talk to someone who has had similar experiences.
– Gives support to the part of the family who remained in Ticino
– Supports the family in the various problems following a hospitalization of their child
– Find solutions to problems related to child disease such as (loss of school lessons, home help, etc.)
– Organize meetings, courses, conferences
– Supports the family in case of bereavement. Problems related to bureaucracy, organization and return of the body, accompaniment and psychological help.
