Who we are
The Winter Aid was born in the 1930s as a solidarity movement in aid of the victims of the economic crisis throughout Switzerland – it is a non-profit association that aims to alleviate poverty and social isolation of families and lonely people who come to find themselves in temporary economic difficulties and in emergency situations. The ZEWO quality seal guarantees the scrupulous use of the contributions we receive. In every age it arouses particular forms of poverty and need. The current situation clearly demonstrates this, and the Winter Rescue is faced with a new challenge. Already in the second half of the nineties some researches pointed to an increase in poverty (and precariousness) in our country. And the situation got worse.
The Ticino Winter Aid helps the inhabitants of the Canton to deal with situations of temporary hardship that cannot be overcome otherwise, first of all through financial contributions and benefits in kind. The association does not undertake tasks which the Confederation, the canton or the communes are required to fulfill by law.
